Pandora at Night
by Todd James Pierce
To illustrate this month’s podcast, I’ve posted up a series of photos taken in Pandora at night. The podcast (DHI 041) relates the story of how Disney designers created the new Avatar-themed micro-environment at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This photos show Pandora at night, during its initial weekend. I understand that, for safety concerns, the atmospheric light in Pandora (i.e. walkway lights) has been raised slightly since opening. These photos show the area with light values as originally defined by the design team. Click on photos (below) to expand them to full screen.
Both episodes of our “Road to Pandora” series are now up on the podcast feed–the hour-and-a-half story of how Disney arrived at this unique land. Links are below:

Lastly, a quick note: You can contact me through my personal webpage. My most recent book, THREE YEARS IN WONDERLAND is a detailed narrative history of the development of Disneyland (from 1953-1956), a moment by moment account of its creation and opening: the struggles, the challenges, the in-fighting and the success. You can find it on Amazon. And remember, even when things are a bit slow on the blog, the DHI Facebook Group is always jumping with new posts relating to the history of Walt Disney and the Walt Disney Company. –TJP
