Not only did the muck and mire need a place to go, but so did a lot of the water. Drainage was key, and as such, canals were built through this new and wondrous world.

Hard to believe that several theme parks would eventually be on that swampy land
I agree. And almost Walt’s Utopian City, Utopian Industrial Park, Utopian Airport, and on it goes. If Disney withOUT Walt can turn that land into four incredible theme parks and countless resorts, then WITH Walt … I dare say we’d all be living in a Walt-Opia!
