HAPPY BELATED NEW YEAR FROM THE INSTITUTE
by Paul F. Anderson
With Special Guest Appearance By Disneyland New Year Horse
We here at the Institute would like to wish you a Happy New Year! With that, we offer the short-lived (and I think the pictures tell that story), New Year’s Eve Celebration Horse from Disneyland. These photos were taken in December 1966, and were for the 1966/67 New Year’s Celebration. As always, I’ve scanned these at pretty high resolution, so click on any image for a more detailed viewed. Enjoy!
Have to say I’d never heard of the Disneyland New Year horse before now. That’s pretty funny.
Yes, definitely a strange one. At first it is a bit jarring, and then you realize why. He has six appendages! Two arms to hold the cane and noise maker, and then four legs. Not sure how Owen Pope dealt with this, but there it is. Definitely some strange characters from the early days. More to come. (Some of these Becky and I used in our Weird Disney presentation at Destination D: Disneyland, others will be rejects…which is kind of odd, because the cast of weird characters is already sort of a bunch of rejects, so it is the “rejects rejects!”. Thanks as always for the comment. Paul
Do you and Becky have “Jingle Bones” in your ‘weird Disney presentation’? That song gets my vote for the weirdest song Disney ever produced.
Hehe. I just went to YouTube and found “Jingle Bones” as I don’t think I recall ever hearing that song. Thanks for mentioning it. 8)
